WARDOGS Easy Anti-Cheat errors: untrusted system file, service not running, launch error
WARDOGS runs kernel-level Easy Anti-Cheat. Most EAC errors mean the service isn't installed or running, or something injected into the game. Repair the service from the game folder, disable overlays and RGB/peripheral software, and the errors clear. Never disable your antivirus permanently for it; whitelist the folders instead.
Error by error
| Message | Meaning | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Easy Anti-Cheat is not installed" / "service not running" | The EAC driver/service isn't present | Run EasyAntiCheat_EOS_Setup.exe from the game's EasyAntiCheat folder → Repair Service → reboot |
| "Untrusted system file (C:\Windows\...\xyz.dll)" | A system DLL was modified or replaced | The file name tells you the program: disable it (often RGB, audio enhancers, Windows customisers), or sfc /scannow |
| "Game security violation detected (#000000XXXXX)" | A program hooked into the game process | Close overlays, macro tools, screen recorders, cheat-adjacent tools; reboot |
| "Launch error: cannot run under a virtual machine" | VM, or a hypervisor feature detected | Play on bare metal; on Windows 11, Core Isolation memory integrity sometimes trips this, toggle it |
| "EAC: Unknown file version" / hash mismatch | Corrupt game files | Steam → Verify integrity of game files |
| Silent exit, no window | EAC service failed to start | Same as the first row, then check antivirus quarantine |
Programs that commonly trip EAC
Overlays (Discord, Steam, NVIDIA, MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner, Medal, Overwolf), RGB suites (some Razer/Corsair modules), audio "enhancers", Windows theme patchers, macro software, and older versions of Wallpaper Engine. Close them all once, launch, then add back one at a time.
Antivirus
If the EAC installer says the service is blocked or the driver disappears after a reboot, your antivirus quarantined it. Whitelist the WARDOGS install folder and C:\Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat_EOS, then repair again.
What kernel-level means for you
The driver loads at boot with system-level access, which is what lets it see cheat drivers. It's the same EAC used by Fortnite, Apex and Rust. If that's a dealbreaker for you, the answer is not to install the game, because there's no non-EAC mode.
Still blocked
Post the exact error text and the number on the Steam forum; BULKHEAD's support reads them at launch. Full crash triage is on the crashing fix page.
FAQ
What does untrusted system file mean?
EAC found a system DLL it doesn't recognise, usually from an overlay, RGB software or a modded Windows theme. Disable the named program or rename the file it lists.
Does WARDOGS EAC need Secure Boot?
Not at launch. TPM and Secure Boot aren't checked yet, but keep them available in case a later update requires them.
Can I play WARDOGS on Linux or Steam Deck?
Not at launch. The kernel-level EAC module isn't enabled for Proton by BULKHEAD, so the game won't start there.
Sick of full servers and queues?
Rent your own WARDOGS server from an approved host and play with your mates on your rules. UK/EU: QONZER (bare metal, no slot fees). Anywhere else: BisectHosting (21 locations). Casual group: xREALM (pay by the hour). Full comparison.
